West High named top merit scholar semi-finalist producing school in Iowa

With 24 students accepted this year, West maintains the title for top producer for national merit scholars.

The National Merit scholar title is sought after by many high schoolers, and 24 students from West High are one step closer to this achievement. 

To become a semi-finalist students need to take the PSAT and place in the top 1% of their state. For Iowa, This number sits at 215. Once students are named semi-finalists, they submit an application and their SAT scores to be considered a finalist. After being named a finalist In around February, they will then be evaluated again and the scholars will be named.
