LGBTQIA+ cinemedia wrap up 2023

LGBTQIA+ media is on the rise and making its impact on the film/TV industry.

Winter is the time to relax and reflect on the year. One form of relaxation that cures exhaustion is watching movies, and nothing compares to the romance movie genre. There’s nothing better than watching a romantic film while cocooned in a pile of soft blankets. Romantic movies can serve as a goal for someone’s ideal relationship. However, it’s difficult to relate to the “romance movie dream couple” when this genre is mainly dominated by heterosexual couples.

LGBTQIA+ (2000 x 2500 px) by Tessa Gibson

COLORS Club is a club for LGBTQIA+ members and allies whose goal is to form a unified community. The club members appreciate the widespread representation that LGBTQIA+ media has received.

Members of the COLORS Club, Caroline VanderWeg ‘26 and Abby Van Every ‘26 recommend their favorite series. “I like the show Owl House,” Caroline VanderWeg said. Additionally, Abby Van Ever commented, “I like the show Good Omens.”

Movies and TV shows are constantly evolving and pushing towards acceptance, and it’s wonderful to see. Here is a list of LGBTQIA+ movies and TV shows that are definitely worth watching.
