West student arrested after bringing BB gun to school, making threats

Following an investigation by the Iowa City Police Department the student was taken into custody early March 5.

A West Student was arrested on March 5 after bringing a BB gun to school and making threatening remarks. According to an email sent to parents from Principal Gregg Shoultz, the student in question was reported by two peers. Following an investigation by West administration and the Iowa City Police Department, the BB gun was discovered and the student was taken into custody. The incident did not interfere with the school day.

“The West High administration is very appreciative of the students for coming forward and for the swift cooperation by the Iowa City Police,” Shoultz wrote.
