Trojans look to improve at MVC supermeet

Both cross country teams traveled to Cedar Rapids to take on the Mississippi Valley Conference.

The girls’ and boys’ cross country teams traveled to Seminole Valley in Cedar Rapids for the Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC) supermeet. The girls looked to enter the rankings in order to get a favorable spot at the state qualifying meet while the boys looked to improve their current standing at No. 18 in 4A.

The girls raced first and proved themselves capable of running with the best in the state. Kate Van Waning ’26 was the first on the team, coming in at No. 25 overall with a time of 20:02. Three seconds later, Cindy Wang ’24 and Gabby Moniza ’24 came in, placing 27th and 28th. Erinn Varga ’24 came in at number 33 overall, followed by Minou Emmad ’23 at number 63. The team finished seventh, just behind No. 10 ranked City High.

The boys’ team also came out strong, with Moustafa Tiea ’25 placing fourth overall with a time of 15:34. Seth Cheney ’23 soon followed at No. 13 with a time of 15:59. Kai Merrill ’25 came in 30 seconds later at No. 33. Robert Stong came in at 17:06 at No. 54, followed by Andrew Polgreen less than 15 seconds later at No. 58. The team came in sixth place.

The boys and girls will head to their last meet before the state qualifiers next week on Oct. 13 at Irv Warren Golf Course in Waterloo.
