With dedication from the players and coaches, the West esports team started off the season with four consecutive wins. Players can be seen practicing in room nine on Mondays and playing matches against other schools on Tuesdays.
With the seniors from last year’s team having graduated, Jeff Conner, the head coach of the team, has focused on recruiting new members. On the first Friday of the school year, members promoted the club during lunch. The promotion helped the esports team gain a lot of new members, who have helped elevate the team’s performance and longevity.
Most matches against other schools are played online, but this year the West esports team went to Liberty High School to play their match.
“I really enjoyed getting to see our students interacting with the other students in person. It was a very different experience than playing online where you don’t get to see your opponent’s face,” Conner said.
The team has two more matches before knowing if they qualify for the playoffs. Winning the in playoffs will advance them to the final bracket.
