After a successful season with a total of 25 wins and five losses, the Trojan volleyball team kicked off the postseason with a victory against Cedar Rapids Washington on Oct. 23.
The team started off the match with a 25-13 win, and it only got better from there. The second set was a 25-11 victory, and they ended the third set 25-7 to finish the match. The Trojans’ energy was high, building off of this semifinal game to push to the championship.
The Trojans were so ahead that they were able to bring out new players early in the first match. Players like Kaeden Hopp ’27, Olivia Scott ’27 and Olivia Headings ’29 were able to sub in.
Cyan Blommer ’29 had an amazing game, scoring five kills to contribute to the team’s game total of 41 kills. Blommer is state-ranked with 255 kills.
Although Sophia Austen ’27 was injured at the Live Like Line tournament on Sept. 13, she has been able to continue playing; she was able to play all three sets and pick up 11 kills. She was able to make an incredible impact on the game despite still recovering from an injury.
With a 26-5 record, the Trojans will go on to play the championship game against the Liberty Bolts with a 24-10 record on Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. at West High School. Although Liberty has won 70% of the West-Liberty matchups since 2018, the Trojans were able to capture two victories against Liberty this season on Oct. 7 and Oct. 14.
If they win, the Trojans will progress to the state championships on Nov. 3 at 12 p.m. The Trojans have had a great season with more to come on their track to state.
