Boys wrestling team falls in home opener to Dubuque Hempstead

The boys wrestling team lost their dual meet to Dubuque Hempstead 44-30 on Dec. 12 despite impressive pins from Grant O’Dell ’22 and Hunter Garvin ’22.

The Trojans dropped their home opener to Dubuque Hempstead 44-30, earning four pins and dropping three narrow decisions.

Hunter Garvin ’22 got the Trojans on the board with an impressive pin in the third match of the meet, setting the score at 12-6 Mustangs. The team added six points with a forfeit at 152 pounds, then picked up a pin from Ashton Barker ’21 at 182 pounds. Barker wrestled in place of Will Hoeft ’20 who was out with a knee injury.

Seniors Collin Leavy and Anu Dokun both battled hard before eventually falling in tight decisions. Sophomores Thomas Pierce and Grant O’Dell picked up pins in the final two matches, but their efforts proved to be futile as the Trojans ultimately fell to the Mustangs 44-30.

The team has a quick turnaround competing on Friday, Dec. 13 and Saturday, Dec. 14 in Council Bluffs.
