West High blood drive

West High hosted an annual blood drive on April 14th.

West High’s Red Cross club hosted its second annual blood drive in the auditorium lobby on Friday, April 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. A total of 57 students and teachers registered for the blood drive, with 40 of them meeting the specified health requirements and each of them donating a pint of blood. These 40 units of blood are being delivered to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics; each donation has the potential to save three lives. The medical procedures were all performed by certified nurses from the American Red Cross who came to West High with portable hospital beds and other necessary equipment. After the blood draw, snacks and food were provided for the donors and they were advised to eat in order to replenish their blood sugar levels. All of the volunteers and donors also received a free exclusive American Red Cross PEANUTS T-shirt featuring Snoopy the Beagle.
