MVC champions and now onto state

The boys track team competed in Dubuque Thursday night at the state qualifier meet. They will be sending 16 events to the state meet next week.

The now MVC champions are looking to their biggest meet of the season, the IHSSA track and field championship. After winning the MVC meet last week at City High, the boys track team had a successful state qualifier regional meet. They qualified for 16 events and 16 athletes (minus the alternates). They will compete next week Thursday through Friday at Drake Stadium for the Iowa State meet.

Results:

100-meter wheelchair:  Jordan Caperon ’23 is ranked first with a time gap of around ten seconds to second place.

Shuttle Hurdle relay:  West High’s team of Aidan Jacobsen ’24, Quinn Abbott ’24, Jesus Marungo-Murillo ’24 and Christian Janis ’23 is ranked second.

110-meter hurdles: Juniors Jesus Marungo-Murillo and Quinn Abbott are currently ranked fourteenth and twenty-fourth respectively.

200 meters: Ranked first in the state is West High’s Izaiah Loveless ’24.

200-meter wheelchair:  Jordan Caperon ’23 is ranked first.

400 meters: West High qualified two runners, Carson Teghanemt and Mason Van Waning both seniors.

400-meter wheelchair:  Ranked first is West’s Jordan Caperon ’23.

400-meter hurdles: Tied for first is junior Aidan Jacobsen, running 52.46.

800 meters: Moustafa Tiea ’25 is ranked 8th running 1:57.36 last night at qualifiers.

4×100 meter relay: West’s team of Todd Rent ’24, Izaiah Loveless ’24, Daniel Robinson ’24 and Christian Janis ’23

4×200 meter relay: Todd Rent ’24, Christian Janis ’23, Aidan Jacobsen ’24 and Izaiah Loveless ’23 are ranked first in a time of 1:26.91.

4×400 meter relay: The qualifying team of Carson Teghanemt ’23, Mason Van Waning ’23, Sam Showers ’25 and Aidan Jacobsen ’24, is ranked twelfth.

4×800 meter relay: Ranked third is the team of Sam Showers ’25, Mason Van Waning ’23, Brice Wahe ’25 and Moustafa Tiea ’25.

Distance medley relay: West High is ranked third after qualifying with a team of Todd Rent ’24, Christian Janis ’23, Sam Showers ’25 and Moustafa Tiea ’25.

Long Jump: Senior Kylin Crittenden ’23 qualified with a jump of 20’5.75 feet.

Discus: Colin Whitters ’26 is ranked eighth throwing 155’11 feet at qualifying.
