Trojans host track and field Mississippi Valley Conference Championships

The girls and boys track and field teams compete for a championship banner.

On May 3, 2024 the West girls track and field team hosted the Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC) Championships after thunderstorms canceled the event the previous day. The girls and boys varsity teams ran at 12 p.m. against Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Cedar Rapids Washington, Dubuque Hempstead, Epworth, Iowa City High, Linn-Mar and Waterloo West. While originally the meet held both varsity and junior varsity events, only varsity girls and boys ran on Friday.

The boys track and field team took first place, with City High following in second place. The girls team took fourth place, with Linn-Mar taking first in the championship.

The boys team won eight out of nineteen events, with Aidan Jacobsen ’24, Izaiah Loveless ’24, Moustafa Tiea ’25 and Colin Whitters ’26 winning four individual events. The girls won three events, with two individual events won by Sophia Olivio ’25 and Erinn Varga ’24. More results can be found down below.
