The Iowa City Community School District sent an email to families on Mar. 6 to notify them of recommendations made by the Iowa Department of Public Health concerning international travel. In the message, the district strongly advised faculty and students against traveling internationally due to the outbreak of Coronavirus, or COVID-19.

“It is our recommendation after reviewing [IDPH] guidance and consulting with legal counsel that all international trips be postponed or cancelled until further notice,” wrote Kristin Pedersen, Director of Community Relations for the ICCSD.

Furthermore, the district is also advising that faculty strongly consider whether to engage in domestic travel, specifically in states where the virus has been reported. Additional information about trip cancellations and return-to-school procedures for international students is to be sent early next week.
