Science Olympiad team places 5th at state-wide competition

West finished their season strong with two teams placing 5th and 9th in the state competition.

On April 1, 28 students from West High traveled to UNI to compete in the state Science Olympiad competition, alongside Northwest Junior High students. Two of West’s four teams qualified for state from the regional competition Feb. 4, led by new coach Nick Bushkofsky, a chemistry teacher at West.

West High’s Gold team placed fifth at the competition, placing second in two events, and third in an additional two. West’s Blue team placed ninth overall, winning first in two events and third in one.

The Northwest Junior High team placed fourth in the middle school division, placing first in five events, second in two events, and third in two events.

West High Science Olympiad captain Ashley Seo ’23 commented on the teams’ performance at state, “we ate it up.”
