West High Science Olympiad’s three teams traveled to the Mount Vernon Invitational Competition Feb. 21, held at Mount Vernon Middle School and Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. After a long day of science tests and build competitions, the Gold, Green and Black teams finished second, fifth and ninth, respectively, with the teams taking home 15 medals in total.
After their first three competitions, the Green and Gold teams are now preparing for the state competition, which will be held April 11 at Iowa State University. Vice-Captain Erin Chen ’27 and the team are looking forward to competing again, while also hoping for more success.
“I think we have a good shot at doing well at state, especially because we have a few more months to prepare, and we have feedback from our last competition. We can review that and figure out what needs to be better,” Chen said.
