Trojans reach the podium in first girls wrestling meet of the season

The Trojans competed in their first meet of the season at a packed City High gym Nov. 14.

The West High girls wrestling team traveled across town to rival City High for a tournament Nov. 14. In the first meet of the season, several returners made statements while newcomers shined as well.

Junior Xuvia Stevenson started the night at 115 losing by fall to Cedar Rapids Prairie. Natalia Gentiluomo ’25 made it to the fourth-place match but couldn’t finish it, losing by fall in the third period. She finished in fifth place.

At 135, Helen Orszula ’24 fought through the bracket, getting a quick pin in the first round. Though she lost by fall in her next match, she battled back, getting an overtime win for third place. Harper Chase ’25 put up a good fight but lost by fall in the third period. Freshman Peyten Van Dyke finished off the lineup strong, securing a seventh-place finish.

The wrestlers will come back to the area Dec. 1 and 2 for the Donnybrook tournament at Xtream Arena.
