The Iowa High School Press Association identified Shanza Sami ’26 and Charlotte Stephens ’26 as two of Iowa’s Top 10 Emerging Journalists, a program which seeks to recognize emerging talent in newspaper, yearbook and digital media students.
Sami is on the West Side Story print staff as a reporter and will be feature editor next year, and Stephens is on the Trojan Epic staff as student life co-editor and will be co-editor-in-chief and design co-editor next year.
Emerging Journalists receive a $100 scholarship toward attending the 2024 Summer Journalism Workshops at The University of Iowa or Media Now at Drake University.
IHSPA also named seniors Wesal Haroun and Erinn Varga as IHSPA Scholars, an academic honor for the state’s top journalism students.
