The West girls wrestling team was one of eight teams competing at the second annual Kennedy Girls Wrestling Invite Dec. 11.

The top finisher of the night was Peyten Van Dyke ’27, earning first place in the 145 pound bracket after a podium finish at the Council Bluffs Classic Dec. 9. She pinned her first two opponents before winning first place with a 5-0 decision.

Helen Orszula ’24 took home silver at 130 after pinning two girls before getting pinned in the finals.

The last top three finisher, Trinity Myers ’25, won her first match, but was pinned in her second. In her third place match, she beat her opponent 7-5.

Both at 135, Sylvia Brofitt ’26 and Harper Chase ’25 ended up wrestling each other on the consolation side of the bracket, Brofitt winning with a pin. She went on to place fifth.

Lila Bihun ’27 wrestled hard, but lost two matches in the 125 bracket.

The team looks forward to their dual against City High Jan. 4, 2024.
